our Team

Mission: To restore North Star House as a cultural gathering center, bringing the magic of the arts, theater, literature, history and music to generations of children, youth, and adults as well as providing a unique environment that nourishes the creative spirit.

Twenty years ago, North Star House was on the verge of structural collapse, abandoned and the go-to place for vandals, partying teenagers, the homeless, and wild animals. When the ownership changed, the new owner realized the house was both a liability and an historic building, so he transferred title of the house and 14 acres to a non-profit organization, Nevada County Land Trust (now the Bear Yuba Land Trust) and then in 2015, ownership passed to the North Star Historic Conservancy. To date, our renovations have been underwritten by our local community – donating labor, materials, and money. It has been a community-wide labor of love restoring North Star House to its original beauty and function. This year, North Star House has turned a corner and is on the cusp of becoming a community gathering center. The first floor is almost complete, new lawn installed and we are open for both community events and rentals.
