Continue along the path to the northwest corner of the house. Turn right and walk down the footpath all the way to the original front entrance. Turn and look at the house. Julia Morgan designed the angled front entrance to make it appear as if the house was rising among the evergreens (see photo). You can also see from the vintage photo that this entrance included pillars and a wrought iron gate. The pillars still exist but, unfortunately, the gate is gone and will be replaced one day.

Most visitors used the circular driveway to enter the courtyard as it was easier to disembark from a carriage, or later from cars.
