Volunteer

Volunteer Opportunities

Our volunteers and their commitment to the various projects underway represent the most valuable asset of the North Star Historic Conservancy and The North Star House. Volunteers come from all parts of Nevada County and beyond, providing valuable services on restoring the grounds and preserving historic trees and plants, as well as rehabilitating and improving the North Star House for future community use.

We get our volunteer help from local Nevada County schools, churches, contractors, professionals from many fields and from the general public. We also receive donations of materials and supplies needed to rehabilitate the house. Without this level of of support, our goal of making the North Star House and grounds a valuable community resource would be impossible to achieve.

We would appreciate some assistance with the following endeavors:

Events Committee Members:  Attend monthly meeting to plan events; work on logistics of events between meetings and take responsibility for some aspects of some events.

Events Helpers: Day-of-event help with setup, during event, and cleanup.

Garden Crew for Heritage Garden: People needed for pruning, weeding, watering, maintaining hardscape, and maintaining irrigation system.

Grounds Keepers: Maintain several acres and restore grounds around the house to be similar to the previous landscaping.

Docents: Learn basic information about the North Star House and its history, then welcome visitors to the house, answer questions, and offer to show them around if they would like a brief tour.

Construction / Carpenter: Help with general carpentry including wood shingling sides of house; work on two-story scaffolding.

Construction / Experienced Masons: Re-grout mine rock lower story of the house. Possibly help modify some foundation walls for wider doorways.

Outreach Coordinator: Connect with organizations in Western Nevada County to schedule speaking engagements for NSHC representatives.
